The name is usually explained as ultimately deriving from an Old Persian title meaning “treasurer”, though the precise historical transmission into the medieval personal name is uncertain.\nThe spelling Casper has an established Norwegian history and was used in Norway in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, before becoming substantially more popular from the late twentieth century.\nCompare Danish Casper, Swedish Casper, German Casper, Dutch Casper and English Casper (“male given name”).",
